"Exotic experience of Li-An Lodge", June 22, 2008, Boca Raton, Florida
We are world travelers thru 40 years of international business and now retired and traveling for pleasure. The Li-An lodge was recommended to us by a very experienced china tour leader of a very high end tour operator although we booked by an independent chinese travel agent. The 16 room lodge-all rooms furnished differently in traditional Chinese motifs-compliment the extraordinary scenes of rice fields in terraced plots, minority native villages, reached by several hundred meter climb straight up (assisted by luguage bears and available sedan chairs. The lodge took 8 years to build and was created by a famous Chinese photographer/artist and bears his imprint at every facet. Aside from the views, the architecture ,the scenery and the design, the English speaking local staff is unusually accommodating. We found this lodge and its surroundings visually stunning and one of our most interesting and exciting venues of all our travels.
"Spectacular", May 27, 2008, Wales
This is an amazing place. The rooms are tastefully decorated, each in a different style with the owners touches in each. I believe he is an artist. The views are stunning. Food is simple but adequate and the service we received was first rate. The only draw back is getting here, a long climb up with no transport access. However it really is worth the climb.
"A Treasure in a Magnificent Location", May 18, 2008, Naples, Florida
We stayed at the Li An Lodge in April for three nights. It is an amazing place, built without nails and decorated wth beautiful Chinese antiques. There is drinkable water and private western toilets in every room. Our bed was soft and comfortable We slept well. The meals are included and were excellent. The staff is friendly, courteous and able to speak enough English. We plan on returning. I think fall would be spectacular in that region of China.
"Unique and deeply beautiful", May 15, 2008, Los Angeles
I loved the Li-An Lodge. Our friends from SF stayed there last year with their kids and recommended it even though it was off the beaten tourist path. We took our 19 and 21 yr olds and they loved it too. The place is extraordinary. Each room is spectacular in a different way. If you love art and history and crafts, you will enjoy this. The decor in each room is like a fine quality museum. One gets to appreciate up close artistic technique that took thousands of years to evolve. The owner has chosen exquisite pieces for each room and one gets a deeper sense of ancient and rural China by being here. Each room has a completely different theme. The views from the hotel are magnificent no matter what season you go. We were there in winter which can be bleak but it was not. It was dramatic. I imagine the other seasons are even nicer.
The hotel is small and intimate -- extremely comfortable and first class. The staff is very nice and helpful.
The hike up the hill was intense but fun and the big payoff is that you are in a little village far from the hustle and bustle of a big city or even a smaller touristy town. We enjoyed walking thru the hills to other nearby villages and seeing the indigenous peoples.
"Cool lodge in Longji", January 3, 2008, Loveland, CO
My wife & I did a 3 week tour of China in May, 2007. It was her first trip to China so we picked a tour that stayed at very good hotels. We were very surprised that our favorite lodging was in the countryside --- Li-An Lodge in Longji. The views of the rice terraces outside our room were great & the Chinese antiques in our rooms & the other rooms were museum quality. We really felt like we were in China. The 5 star hotels in Shanghai & Hong Kong that we stayed in felt "anonymous" --- the hotels could have been in the US or Europe. The Li-An Lodge was China with a lot of style.
